INT. YOUR BROWSER – NOW
Type a scene. Watch it format.
Type in plain text — INT. for a scene, a NAME in capitals, the lines under it — and the page sets it as a screenplay as you go. Nothing is uploaded.
Saved in this browser as you type, nowhere else. Stuck? Load an example scene. Copy link puts the whole scene inside a link: on an iPhone or iPad with Scenarist it opens in the app; anywhere else it shows as a page. The .fountain file opens in Scenarist and most screenwriting apps.
How the page reads what you type
These are the Fountain conventions — the plain-text screenplay format that Scenarist, Final Draft, Highland and Slugline all read.
- INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT
- A line that starts with INT., EXT. or I/E is a scene heading.
- MAYA
- A name in capitals after an empty line is a character.
- Where were you?
- The lines right under a character are that character’s dialogue.
- (quietly)
- Parentheses on their own line, inside dialogue, are a parenthetical.
- CUT TO:
- Capitals ending in TO: are a transition, set to the right edge.
- ↵ ↵
- An empty line ends the dialogue. Whatever comes next is action again.
In the app none of this is on you. Scenarist formats as you type, capitalises names and headings, and Smart Keys and autocomplete fill in the cast, the locations and the (V.O.).
